The longstanding STRIVE® (Strategies and Therapies for Reducing Ischemic and Vascular Events) education initiative was developed to help physicians and healthcare teams optimize the management of acute coronary syndromes (ACS). The initiative encourages the use of evidence-based “critical pathways” (aka, care maps, protocols) that reflect the latest American College of Cardiology (ACC)/American Heart Association (AHA) practice guidelines for ACS. STRIVE® is an initiative of the Network for Continuing Medical Education (NCME). To assist clinicians in implementing critical pathways for ACS in daily practice, the STRIVE initiative provides several tools (eg, checklists, standing orders, discharge plans) for use at the point of care, including various risk calculators. Two of these implementation tools are now available for the iPhone, with more planned for the future: The GRACE (Global Registry of Acute Coronary Events) ACS Risk Model Calculator provides a means to quickly calculate an ACS patient’s risk for mortality or MI at admission through discharge and out to 6 months. This information facilitates risk stratification and can help guide treatment decisions. The CRUSADE (Can Rapid Risk Stratification of Unstable Angina Patients Suppress Adverse Outcomes With Early Implementation of the ACC/AHA Guidelines) Bleeding Score Calculator helps quickly assess an individual patient’s risk for in-hospital major bleeding, thereby facilitating selection, timing, and dosing options for antithrombotic agents. Both risk calculators provide prompt quantitative risk assessment information to supplement clinical judgment. STRIVE® ACS Mobile Apps are made possible through support from the Bristol-Myers Squibb/Sanofi Pharmaceuticals Partnership. less
