Software not being updated
I continue to receive a Compatibility Warning for iOS 9 and the link for More Information says "Compatibility Warning" for iOS9. Nothing in the FAQ, etc. not indication here anything is being done to update the app and make it work with Health Kit. Seems development is not proceeding while I still see the Meter onSale at my local store. Time has come to address the software or Open Source it!

Software needs updating, please!
The device is convenient, however, it's not syncing with the new iOS.

Completely useless
Never works... Complete waste of money and a great opportunity to exploit modern technology and convince.

Sanofi-Aventis
I find it unbelievable that a large and rich company like this does not worry about their customers! Product is good, still in the market, gives the reading when battery is not dead (it lasts a few days only), but if you want to log it and sync with your iPhone, you are out of luck. Not compatible with iOS 8.3. Any cheap monitor does a better job SANOFI-AVENTIS! Pay attention to your customers please! Update the software!

Upset
I bought the iBGStar to use with my iPhone 6plus, and was so excited to use. Then after connecting, nothing happened. Tried to call company, don't bother!!!!!!!!!!! Emailed company also, no response. No updates for iOS 8. $150 (meter plus strips) down the toilet. Don't purchase, unless this company finally stands up and does what is right.

Updates?
IBG star no longer works with the update of IOS 8.3 on my phone and I see this has happened a lot! Other than that it's worked great and I'm able to keep a close eye on my BG.

Need serious improvement
Its a good idea, the the app is lacking the features that could make it better. Needs integration with health kit, Needs the ability to write anything in the notes. Needs the ability to log more than one type of insulin injection per card, and people with very high insulin resistence should be able to log more than two digits on insulin units. Please remove from the screen that anoying incompatibility warning, we got it the first time...

No update since 2013, not compat with iOS 8
It has been more than a year since the last update. When will I be able to use this expensive device and the expensive test strips with my current phone?

Update?
Please! Still love the meter Software NEEDS updating!

Stay away from IBGstar meters and strips, no iOS app
I’m just going to repeat what I tried to put in Title (can’t be sure it be there for you) Stay away from IBGstar meters and strips if ios, no iOS app support under iOS 7 and 8 for this lightning port iPhone 5s. I use the $39 Apple 30 pin to Lightning connector. The reason I’m giving the software a bad grade is that the developer needs to tell the public what to expect. Ive been to the sanofi avenues website, nothing there! These are the most expensive diabetes test strips on the market, hard to find, insurance wants cheaper strips. The best justification of these strips is iOS connectivity. Drug Cos. talk about patients and customers and the newest darling - social media. How about updating this software, everyone else did it. And communicating with us through the iTunes reviews with a post telling something. iPhone 5s, 64GB, iOS 8.2.

Had for year not satisfactory
I have had the device for about a year. Product looks like a good answer. Software seems to be what I want. Unfortunately battery life is mediocre at best. Is usually dead when I need the connivence. 50% of the time it will not upload data to phone. I have an iPhone 5S. This ruins the value of the software trending. Not very satisfied am seriously thinking of going back to Bayer USB product that works consistently, I bought this because I always have iPhone around but not laptop. At this point if someone asks in January 2015 I would recommend to not purchase.

I like it
Easy- simple - and automated with the right tools

All but dead product
They're lack of customer support, absent software updates for over a year and now lack of test strips for purchase tells me they have unofficially pulled the plug on this product. It's only a matter of time before they announce it officially. What a waste.

2.1.1 still does not support voice over
Old version worked great! New version does not support voice over for basic function...reading blood sugar value. This update has made the BGStar useless to blind users. Update... New version is still inaccessible by blind users. Latest update did not fix issues to allow voice over to function.

FAILED upgrade to the 5/s iOS 7
Customer support cannot provide me with test solution to verify the accuracy of this meter. I was told I would be put on a waiting list but that they really couldn't say when a test solution would be ready! The TEST SOLUTION is not for sale!!! They have done NO effective Physician ed or marketing. My MD cannot upload my results from iBG Star Monitor, and he does not have a patient email address for me to send him results! EVERY OTHER METER ON THE MARKET can upload results to my MD's system! I'm an RN for heavens sake! Initial performance & reviews were stellar - Not any more! I keep getting error messages that "this is not an iOS supported device". Did you forget that those of us with the iPhone 5/a have to use an adapter to connect our monitors to our phones now? How about replacing our monitors with the updated connector so an adapter is not needed?

Frustrated
Been using this thing for about a week now and not impressed. Made sure I had an official “Apple” adapter. (in my opinion I should have to spend an extra 30 bucks to use the thing) my phone and IBGstar was charged. Sometime it shows “not an iPhone compliant external device” Sometimes it takes a reading and doesn’t apply it to the log. Sometimes does show the fancy schmancy fireworks as it is reading the sample. I expected more. Good concept, crappy either software, product or both.

Great idea, terrible execution
This is a great idea, if only it worked! Readings are so so wrong. I even tried to figure out a baseline, but results are all over the place. Don't waste your time or $$

Piece of CRAP!!! - epic Fail
Either deliver what you promised or get the h*ll out! Pathetic!

Please make available to sync on multiple devices
I like the logbook style but info is only on one device. I can't talk on my phone to the dr and discuss info if that is the only place info is. Please make available to sync with cloud. Right now I am using two apps plus an insulin calc app

Latest version buggy!!
Update: the bug has been around for more than a month now! What a disappointing response from the manufacturer. The app might be free, but it is an integral part of the iBGstar meter, which is rendered useless... After the latest update you cannot use Tags. Every time you try to tag an entry the app crashes. As a result statistics are useless since entries cannot be properly categorized (relative to meals). Even if you manually put notes to bypass the problem, the statistics will not recognize these and will not reflect them. Also an important limitation is the inability to export the database so as to transfer to another device without starting from scratch. Even better would be some kind of cloud sync. Has potential. The quality of this app is a test of the commitment of the manufacturer on a product that centers around mobility for diabetes, so if they are reading I hope they will fix the bug and improve the overall quality of the app. Afterall, without this app the product is pointless.

Has potential, needs work
I agree with others here that this app needs some serious work: the crashing behavior when you try to enter a tag renders the app useless for noting a faithful history of measurements, and that is its primary purpose. The other limitations are also frustrating: can't properly enter exercise notes or meds other than insulin, and the antediluvian incapacity to transfer data to other devices is just mind-boggling. Have you heard of iCloud, people? Love the meter and the whole concept of this system, but compare this software with its peers and functionally it's pretty pathetic. The devs can do much better than this if Sanofi Aventis supports them, and the company should do that for its own good. This could be a gateway device for other medical solutions: blood pressure measurement and tracking, for instance. They could develop a one-stop-shopping app to aid in monitoring and managing all kinds of health factors. They could have in-app purchases for test strips, lancets, even for their insulin products. But they have get this app up to speed first, IMHO. The recent shift to the Lightning port for the iPhone 5 should be a lesson as well: if they'd have built in Bluetooth, my iBgStar meter would not have become a legacy product two weeks after I bought it. I have older iPhones and a first-gen iPad, but who is going to buy this device if the new iPhone is their one-and-only IOS device? Apple was boosting this meter and app; they should have given S-A a clue. Not good for the company or the consumer.

Still no iOS 6 fix for tagging bug but Lightening Adapter works
Like others, I can confirm still no fix for the iOS 6 bug. Come on Sanofi, a high school kid could probably fix the app bug. Today I received my adapter that allows 30-pin devices to plug into the iPhone 5 Lightening port. I can confirm the meter does sync with the app on iPhone5. But again, tagging crashes the app. No tagging essentially makes the reports feature useless. If you are considering buying the BGStar, don't do it until the manufacturer steps up to the plate and fixes their app for iOS6. Also know you will need the 30-pin adapter from Apple if you plan on using with an iPhone5.

Great
Just started using it with the meter Love it so far. Would like a tie into WW pts instead of carbs

Needs work
Need better ways of exporting data. A list of bg's is not nearly as valuable as a log book or trend graph.

Need much
Nice try expensive and glitchy. Freezes up and need to turn off the Ipad. The selling point was apple os bg monitor that had functionality to it. I could have done what it does in excel for 30 minutes work for free. Apple send one of your 12 y/o's over to these folk. The damage they do to the apple name is bad. The I understand what's it say is not supported by my Ipad? Why did I download the update? Won't allow a zero rating.

Update to previous review
Although the app is great for tracking glucose levels, I have discovered that the ibgstar device is grossly inaccurate and utterly worthless. After trying two different ibgstars and comparing directly in the doctor's office to their readings, the ibgstar read consistently 30 to 40 points higher. That is HUGE and makes the ibgstar worthless as a medical tool. It is just a high tech toy with all the engineering spent on the iPhone interface and not the usefulness as a medical instrument.

Missing offset setting
Only issue is a offset setting! I compared the ibg star to the hospital meter and found the ibg star meter 17 points higher. Please add a offset setting.

Needs more improvements especially to work with Voiceover
The new update to iBGStar has not improved the app. When entering information into a score card, the screen is less cluttered, but VoiceOver doesn't read the data that has been entered such as the blood glucose number. There is still not a way to customize meal tags or to use a different system. There is also no way to specify use of an insulin pump. I am not even going to try using iBGStar anymore until a new and hopefully better update is released. I also now know not to purchase the meter. Please consider input from these reviews. IBGStar has great potential if the developers are willing to spend more effort making iBGStar user friendly.

IBG star user
Sharing feature is great, but leaves room for many improvements.

M.D.
This is the worst diabetes management program I have ever used. Even with iOS 6.1, the software freezes; cannot enter gms glucose; timing of testing relative to diet does not work; analytical are poor at best. Also, the accuracy of the meter is poor . I have stopped using the meter and the software.

Hopeful purchaser
Psychologically it is not a good thing to take your glucose reading be high, especially a false high and it's a big waste of money. The high readings from this meter are very disappointing. IBGStar please fix this issue, your reputation is at stake and I assume like me most people purchasing your product would REALLY for it to work properly!

Potential
I just started to use this ap and have mixed feelings. The readings are 20-30 points higher then my other meter. When trying to get my levels under control, lows can be dangerous if this meter is that off. Used the test solution and it reads within the range required. I know that from one meter to another it could vary 10-15 points. I wish this ap also had a feature to track daily intake. This way one could see what is causing highs or lows. I hate to have to use multiple aps to track information. This ap has potential but is not quite there yet.

Love it on my iPhone
I love that everything I need is on my iPhone. It makes it so much easier. Good app and I've not had any problems.

Love this meter
As a pharmacist and a person with diabetes, i love this app. You might read reviews here that this meters readings are high, but when you look at the fda requirements for a glucometer versus a blood draw, they are within specifications. In fact, the fda allows for a substantially wide swing of up to 20% in 95% of the tests. This meter has performed very well in clinical trials (and even exceeded others) compared to aviva, freedom lite, contour, and onetouch ultra. The method this meter uses to determine blood glucose levels are different from some others in that it is using dynamic electrochemistry. So i have to wonder about the people that complaining regarding the accuracy of this meter when compared to their old one. The truth is in this case you are probably truly seeing the results and do not want to accept that your sugars are that high or that low. The point is that either way you must be consistent with which ever meter you choose. I personally have not looked back and my A1c has never been better. As a matter of opinion, my a1c was higher when i was using my onetouch ultra. But hey i am only a pharmacist.

Work this out for the iPhone 5 already…
The biggest disappointment with this particular meter (for me) is that they are painfully behind making a version for the iPhone 5, any of the new iPods, and the latest operating systems… It is not just a software limitation, it seems as though they also have no plans on making a hardware resolution without adapters and other things as well.

Simply the best
Love it

Great App!
My only request is to get the glucose meter and the app updated/optimized for iPhone 5..

Doesnot work with VoiceOver
We were excited to find this product & App. Upon testing, we determined that VoiceOver Read everything EXCEPT the blood glucose readings, rendering utterly worthless. The meter will be returned.

Fantastic
This meter/app combo makes it so easy to monitor my diabetes and it was so cheap! I love this app. I don't have to remember to write things down anymore, I can just test my blood sugar, and as soon as it loads, put in what I'm gonna eat and the insulin input, and just email straight to my dietician and endocrinologist. So easy, and so awesome!!

Disappointed
Purchased unit today only to find out that with my iPhone case an Otterbox will not allow the data piin to go deep enough for the meter to connect to the phone. It is a real hassle to take the case off just for this. What a disappointment. Lesson learned. Looks like there are plenty of bad reviews on this as well. Wish I would have looked here first.

Please update
It's time to update this for the iPhone 5. Great app and easy to use...but worthless those of use that have updated or want to update to the iPhone 5. Just a simple fix.

Could have been 5 Stars ... :(
BOTTOM LINE: 3 Stars & 2 Unhappy Faces The app should use VoiceOver and be updated for iPhone 5s. The meter needs a longer adaptor to use some of the heavier protective cases (the promise of a free case is nice but still haven't received mine). Lastly, the carry case is a real failure because the lance and wipe pocket uses Velcro that makes it very prickly and harsh to use. BOTTOM LINE: 3 Stars & 2 Unhappy Faces

Simple and Easy to Use
Update: I just wanted to to say that those submitting reviews should base it on the merits of the app and not on hardware. Also, those who are looking for iPhone 5 direct connection; the iBGStar was designed to keep the size to a minimum and as such takes full advantage of the 30 pin connectors capabilities. When Apple changed to the Lightning connector they made some major interface changes that are somewhat proprietary and require extra hardware and licensing approval. This would add extra size and cost to the device. Even Apple's interface adapter and cable house extra hardware inside them. That's part of the reason why they're so expensive. For now they are probably the only solution for the iBGStar until they can a) make a hardware redesign and b) get Apple approval. --------- I downloaded this app to try it before buying the iBGStar meter. I was impressed that it functioned fully even without the meter. I picked up the meter at Walgreens for $4.99 (with coupon) and it provided something I have looked for, a BCM that fully integrates with my iPhone. The reports are what I was expecting and the ability to extract and email pleases my doc. It's simple and easy to use. Just what and old guy like me needs.

Recent purchase
I am overall very happy with this unit! It does exactly what it says it would! I do agree about having to take off my case to attach the device, but that is a minor flaw that I am willing to deal with! Thanks for making this product it is very helpful!

Works great with IPod 5th
Very well done setup. Work well with my IPod 1g but also works with my IPod 5g. I use the lightning to 90-pin connector and it work great. The problem is getting strips from other than Walgreen or 1 online dealer. It needs more distribution of the strips than one or two pharmacies.

More sizzle than steak
Nice features. But if the meter doesn't work they are useless. Been using the meter with iPhone 4 for past 4 months. I keep the meter attached to iPhone 24-7. Two critical problems. The meter rarely syncs automatically with the iPhone when you start the ap. To get it to sync you have to pull off the plastic case, disconnect the meter and then reconnect the meter to the iPhone to get the ap to synch with meter. But the most critical problem is with error reads on the testing strips. When I first began using the meter about 1 in 10 times I would get an error on the strip and have to reprick my finger and use another test strip. But lately, I have to waste 3-4 strips just to get one non-error reading and who knows if it is accurate. I have tested each batch of strips with the control solution, and often have to duplicate the test because of error readings. So it is not bad strips. And don't believe it is user error, having been a type 1 for 35+ years using many meters with rarely ever a problem with error codes. Lastly, the plastic case that helps to protect the iPhone and meter does not have good molding around the camera flash as pictures come out with a blurred haze. Thus the case prevents flash photography when the meter and case are on. Overall very disappointing. Hoping this is just a beta version and they can fix the bugs.

App&Meter Review!!!
Just bought my IBG IPhone blood sugar meter and how cool it is. Combined with this program, it's got all the info I need and right to my IPhone. Plug the meter into your Iphone, insert test strip and you got it! The meter itself can be used to do readings without the Iphone as well. Results seem correct compared to my old monitor. I can also email all my stats from the Iphone app to my Dr. Office. Something I couldn't do before. Nice!!! The only down side is the test strips need to come down in price. My insurance covers them's but if they didn't they run about $60 for 50 strips at Walgreens. Beyond that there is no reason not to use this. I also found the app very user friendly and easy to figure out with all the right info I need!!!

2.1.1 still does not support voice over
Old version worked great! New version does not support voice over for basic function...reading blood sugar value. This update has made the BGStar useless to blind users. Update... New version is still inaccessible by blind users. Latest update did not fix issues to allow voice over to function.

I wouldn't reccomend
Generally, I take readings when not connected to the phone. Later, when I get time I connect and sync everything. The app is so-so. I don't like being unable to delete erroneous readings, and you will get them with this device. So in that regard the app is a bit over the top on the strictness. The device is small and compact, but it very touchy. I kept getting error readings one day tossing test strip after strip out. Errors are frequent with the device. The amount of blood needed felt excessive, and it is very hard for me to get enough blood without deep lancing. All of this aggravation for what? The ability to sync with my phone. I could type them in and use a device and app that don't aggravate me. I would not reccomend this thing to anyone.

Rick
Great app. Only needs a way to print the point chart for dr.

Pretty awesome!
I love that I can hook it up, download my numbers and email them to my doc. There are occasional times when I wish I could delete those blood sugars when I don't like them, but it makes you honest with your doctor. He can't help if I delete numbers because I'm ashamed. I would love to print tho. The only other problem I have had with the device is that a had quite a few recordings that didn't have a date and time. It was odd. But otherwise, it's very cool.

Cannot add specific insulins
Also cannot enter more than one entry of insulin at a time. For pre dinner I need to have two doses entered and cannot do it.

Could use a couple fixes
If the user leaves the meter connected to the phone, readings "fall out" after a while, so that I get blank logs when emailing. Also, where are the reminders? Can't set reminders to check blood sugar.

iBG Star
6/30/2013 Tried iBG Star again today. Getting on screen message that iPhone 5 does not support the accessory. Using Apple's Lightening Adapter and the iBG Star meter. I'll try to use the meter again after another update from BG Star. Otherwise using FreeStyle Lite. Meter with Apple adapter and its cable with no problem. ---------- Would be a star if it worked with iPhone 5 and the lightening adapter. I've called iBG Star to see when they plan to come out with the lightening glucometer. Currently it's not in their plans. iBG star will not sync the meter, it won't delete a manual reading. No voice over capabilities for the sight impaired a side affect of diabetes for some. I like the concept but at this time it does not work for me. It did work with iPhone 3G. I don't know about the iPhone 4 series. Maybe in the future iBG Star will include the newest iPhone and lightening connector. Back to Freestyle Lite meter. It works with iPhone 5. Check Glooko App.

Needs one improvement
We love this monitor. My son is a newly diagnosed diabetic. He thinks it is cool to be able to use his iPod to check his readings. The one complaint I have for the company is that I would like a place in the notes section where I can freely type notes on specifics for that meal. The quick notes are great but sometimes more info is needed and it is only needed one time. At the notes section I would like a keyboard pop up so that I can type my note entry.

It's ok
I'm a few days into using it. The app works, but it doesn't have the features I really want. At a minimum it should have iCloud storage for readings so those of us with multiple iOS devices can keep data in sync across all of them. Preferably it would use its own cloud storage system with an API so it can work with Fitbit, body media and the like.

Cool but needs more!
Great concept for a meter to sync directly to iPhone. Accuracy seems ok compared to other meters but the test strips are not the cheapest according to my health plan. Needs to have weight and meals like the other fitness apps. Limited ability to edit a result once it's uploaded, can't delete it. If adding a result manually it locks up if you want to delete it

Incomplete and Ancient
In addition to Voice-Over, iCloud and Printing issues, I have one more: compatibility with iPad. When will these lazy developers get around to getting their software up-to-date so that it addresses not only the aforementioned issues; but, is compatible with all Apple devices, not the least of which is the iPad. Here's a Clue: DON'T HOLD YOUR BREATH!

Good but not perfect
I really like this application and the iBG Star meter. The only thing holding me back from giving it a five star rating is that the application will not allow you to delete an erroneous reading. Such readings happen with any meter, and not being able to delete them and substitute the correct reading from an immediate retest is a problem. It throws off the entire database of information, and that seems unreasonable. If there is some reason why the manufacturer wants such a strict level of control over the readings, how about a menu option to allow one to designate a reading as a bad reading and exclude it from the charts and reports? There just has to be a better way to put the user in control. That's the whole point of a glucose meter.

Surprisingly bad from Sanofi
I just tried it again assuming Sanofi, with all the money they take in from Lantus, would have a better solution. No sync'ing to the cloud, no Lightening adaptor version, no iPad …

This app stinks
I used this meter and app for a few months and I couldn't take it anymore! Test strips were crazy expensive and the functionality in the app was awful... I wanted to see my data on my iPad and iPhone and I couldn't even do that. Also where is the food database? Med reminders? Just one more useless tool for people with diabetes...

Cannot recommend
Not only were results significantly different from my Freestyle Lite meter -- back-to-back readings routinely differed by as much as 40 points. I wanted to like this product because of its integration with my iPhone but it does not seem ready for prime time. [Note: I can't really review the app because I never got a reading that was reasonably close to the Freestyle reading.]

ibgstar and ipad mini and ipad 1.
well, the sw it does not work with an iPad mini or even an iPad one with an apple purchased adapter. it works good on my iPhone 3gs, however it must have a chart printout of the readings and not just a bunch of reading in a printout.we are all visual today and a lot of rows and columns don't cut it. if you could see a chart on an iPad that might be ok, but to see the chart on 3-3.5 iPhone screen is not very helpful.

Please update the device with a lightning connector!
I’m a bit surprised that this device is still using the oh-so-dated 30-pin connector. Since iPhone 5 has been out more than a year now and all new devices using Lighning it seems a bit of an imposition to require the customer to buy another connector to “fix” the old design of your product. Please join the modern Apple world and go Lightning. Please and Thank You.

Fatal Update Flaw
Latest update deleted over 2 years of stored data!!!!!!!! Unable to restore!!!!!! Lost a valuable management tool. Very displeased with this.

Software Update
Apple did an OS update, now not able to retrieve charts. Please fix. For the price of the tester, it should have been fixed.

Slowly becoming unuseful
I got this thinking it was a great tool for managing my glucose tracking. At first worked great then the data starting showing up in between the columns. Now hard to use as the data populates wrong and makes this just another glucose meter. They need to update the software and fix the issues.

Does not work with my iPhone 5s
And my lighting connecting can't support the dock. So now what? Back to my old meter

please get updated to iOS 7
When it worked, it was fine. However, this app needs to be updated to function with iOS 7. Otherwise it has limited use other than taking glucose count. Better rating when you fix it.
