In 1939, the Halifax Veterinary Hospital opened its doors and became the first established Animal Hospital Practice in the Halifax area. Dr. Ross Ainslie acquired the hospital in 1953, and has since been committed to offering excellence in animal health care, promoting responsible pet ownership and health-related educational opportunities for our clients. 

The Halifax Veterinary Hospital is one of three (see also the Fairview Animal Hospital and the Spryfield Animal Hospital) that are owned by the Halifax Veterinary Hospital Inc. Conveniently located within the city of Halifax, our health care team offers collectively over 95 years of experience with extensive and ongoing training in all aspects of Veterinary medicine.

The Halifax Veterinary Hospital is an accredited member of the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA). Since 1996, we have regularly undergone evaluations by AAHA to ensure that we comply with the association’s high quality standards of care. These standards cover nearly every aspect of our hospital, including surgery, pharmacy, laboratory, exam facilities, patient care, cleanliness, client service, emergency services, diagnostic imaging, and anesthesiology.
